Part 1: Collections
Capital Jewish Museum is not open yet, we are about to start building the museum and today we’re going to do the same thing together, only this museum is going to be all about you! Museums are places that tell stories. Sometimes there are objects inside and sometimes they are outside. When there are a lot of objects that tell the same story they are part of a collection! Let’s make a museum all about you and use objects to make a collection that tells your story.

Part 2: Display Cases
We’re going to make display cases for the collections that we put together last week. You can also choose different objects for your display cases. It’s your museum so you can choose what you want to display! Think about the story you want to tell and choose some of your most loved items to tell others something about you.

Part 3: Art
Today we’re going to continue building our museum and it’s time to add some art! It can be art of yourself, family, friends, or just art that you like to make. Let’s make some art together. Art is another way that we can tell stories about ourselves. Art is a way to share your wishes, be creative, and even celebrate special moments. Today we’ll make some self-portraits and prepare to hang them up in our museum. What other art will you create to tell your story?

Part 4: Build Your Museum
This is the last activity in Create the Museum of You! Today we’re going to put all of the pieces that we’ve made together. It’s time to actually build our museums! Use these activities to help you put the finishing touches on your museum. What do you want the entrance to look like? Where will you build your museum?

Teacher Workshop
In this online workshop designed for K-12 educators, examine stories of resilience found in the Capital Jewish Museum’s collection. Discuss how you might use these objects and artworks to spark your students’ spirits for learning. Co-presented with the Smithsonian American Art Museum, this workshop took place on September 15, 2020.
Passover Graphic Novel
Each page of the graphic novel poses one of the four questions. Use your own family’s traditions and memories to illustrate each page to represent your family’s Seder. Use your creativity to make a book cover and don’t forget to take credit as the author and illustrator! After your book is complete you can bind it with yarn, string, staples, paperclips, or whatever you have lying around your house.
