Volunteer

The Capital Jewish Museum seeks volunteers passionate about Jewish Washington and interested in working within the Museum community. Volunteers play an integral role in the operation of the Museum and the visitor experience, while gaining valuable experience. We seek energetic individuals from diverse backgrounds, able to make a one-year commitment.

Volunteer Opportunities Include:

Guiding Tours: Volunteer tour guides are vital to the Museum’s work, serving as some of our most knowledgeable ambassadors. Volunteers lead public tours at noon on Sundays, and help facilitate large group visits. No previous experience is necessary, training is provided.

Public Programs: CJM hosts many exciting and dynamic programs throughout the year, from family days and after-hours parties to workshops and lectures. Volunteers help make these programs possible by helping with set up and take down, checking tickets, facilitating activities and engaging visitors in the galleries. Each program is different and there are jobs for every ability level.

Departmental Assistance: In addition to the front facing volunteer roles, each department of CJM has work that volunteers can help with. From administrative jobs such as scanning documents in the archives and helping with mailings, to creating trivia games for member events and transcribing oral histories, there’s something for all skill sets.
