Celebrating our 2023 Accomplishments

by Esther Safran Foer, Board Chair
January 1, 2024

Look at what you helped make possible! Our galleries are alive with locals and tourists, taking in the breadth of history of this vibrant community. In this moment of heightened antisemitism and heartbreaking devastation in the Middle East, the Museum provides context, perspective, and a space to better understand and learn more about the past as we examine critical contemporary issues.

There is so much that we have been able to accomplish since our official opening in June, including:

Welcomed more than 21,000 visitors and nearly 1,400 members on more than 90 tours
Acquired and digitized dozens of significant collections, including the historic archive of Jewish Women International (formerly B’nai B’rith Women) and personal collections from Jewish store owners such as Simon Atlas, Atlas Sport Store, and Shirley and Stuart Kaufman, Katz’s Kosher
Launched a new and engaging website and were featured in 25+ major stories in the media
Developed the infrastructure for school visits and hosted the first of many to come

Our building has been brought to life, bustling with visitors from across the community. Our programs explore and celebrate the experiences of Jewish Washingtonians. Our collection continues to expand, preserving artifacts that tell our community’s stories.

Your support has helped us get to this point and allowed us to fulfill our mission to explore the Jewish experience in the National Capital Region and to inspire visitors to connect personally and collectively, reflect on the relevance of the past to today, and act on behalf of their values and communities.

I am so grateful for all that you have helped make happen in 2023 and look forward to all that is possible in the year to come!
