The Capital Jewish Museum seeks volunteers passionate about Jewish Washington and interested in working within the Museum community. Volunteers play an integral role in the operation of the Museum and the visitor experience, while gaining valuable experience. We seek energetic individuals from diverse backgrounds, able to make a one-year commitment.
Volunteer Opportunities Include:
Guiding Tours: Volunteer tour guides are vital to the Museum’s work, serving as some of our most knowledgeable ambassadors. Volunteers lead public tours at 2pm on Sundays, and help facilitate large group visits. No previous experience is necessary, training is provided.
Public Programs: CJM hosts many exciting and dynamic programs throughout the year, from family days and after-hours parties to workshops and lectures. Volunteers help make these programs possible by helping with set up and take down, checking tickets, facilitating activities and engaging visitors in the galleries. Each program is different and there are jobs for every ability level.
Oral Histories: Our volunteer oral historians help to collect important local stories so they can stay in the historical record. Volunteers will be trained on how to set up an interview, the best practices during an interview, how to archive and transcribe your oral history, and ethical practices.
Collections Assistance: CJM is seeking volunteers for regular & consistent work in the Museum’s archives. Work will mainly consist of:
